Dear COMPT Friends:
The annual meeting of the American Association of Museums in Denver is just around the corner – April 27 to May 1, to be precise.
Many great sessions and many great evening events, though, alas, U2 will not be joining us at Red Rocks! Many thanks to Marti Allen for serving as COMPT program chair; we have developed or endorsed quite a few super sessions, including "Developing Museum Leaders From the Field: The Salary Conundrum," to be chaired by Carlo Lamagna on Sunday afternoon.
And of course, one of the special highlights of the meeting will be the COMPT Marketplace of Ideas. It will be held Monday, April 28 from 3:30 until we all get tired of schmoozing (actually 5:30, tired or not!). Christina Kreps of the University of Denver is our Marketplace chair this year, and has done a great job.
The Marketplace will have a different look this year, as we are planning a group of roundtable discussions in the middle of the space on subjects of interest to Emerging Museum Professionals. In fact, the Marketplace has an additional name: “Crafting Your Career.” Our thought is that this will attract EMPs who might be seriously considering taking an advanced degree.
If you will be representing your department at the Marketplace, please let me know so we can reserve you a table. We need this information by next Monday (February 11) so please respond as soon as possible!
Thanks,
Ken Hafertepe
